The Great English Father's Day Breakfast Menu
If you want to do something special for your father on what, to many fathers, is the social non-event of the year, you might consider cooking him a wholesome breakfast. Because it is a special day, you will want to make a special breakfast and what could be more satisfying than a substantial full English version………………….but which option do you choose?
The Traditional Breakfast
A Typical English Style Breakfast
There are many variations on the traditional (not so healthy) full English breakfast but the main ingredients are as follow:
- Fried Eggs
- Fried Pork (or Beef) Sausage
- Fried Bacon
- Fried Mushrooms
- Fried Tomato
- Baked Beans
Additional items, according to taste, may be hash browns, black pudding, French fries, burger or bubble and squeak (usually a mixture of fried potato and cabbage but other vegetables, such as spinach, may be included.) The meal is topped off with a generous helping of toast and a mug of tea.
The Healthy Option
If you would prefer your old man to enjoy a longer life, you may, however decide to go for the healthy option.
The Healthier Variety
A more healthy English breakfast may consist of ingredients such as:
- Scrambled or Poached Eggs
- Vegetarian Sausage
- Grilled Wild Mushroom
- Grilled Hash Brows
- Grilled Tomato
- Baked Beans
Alternative additions may be spinach, grilled potato slices or potato pancakes. Any items that are fried should be cooked in extra virgin olive or rapeseed oil. The meal should be accompanied by wholemeal toast and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Decision Time
By the time Father's Day arrives and you are ready to create that special breakfast, you will have to decide which of these two versions of the great English breakfast you are going to prepare. The healthier option may be the better alternative but will your dad agree?
